Historical Fiesta Day
Saturday, May 17, 2014 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Piñatas, toy making, live interactive events, Native American crafts, traditional tortilla making and more will be part of Historical Fiesta Day in San Juan Capistrano’s Los Rios District on May 17.

The free event, organized by the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is just steps away from the Capistrano Metrolink station. The Los Rios District, home to the society’s O’Neill Museum, is the oldest continually occupied residential neighborhood in the western United States. Historical Fiesta Day will also feature live animals from Casper’s Park, Living History re-enactors and more. Food from Ricardo’s Place Restaurant will be available for purchase.

March and November – Bi-Annual Meetings

General meets are held in March and November and are open to all guests and members. They are held at the San Juan Capistrano Community Center on Del Avion from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Topics are generally of historic interest relating to our area. A report on the Society's yearly activities is given as well. In March we hold our annual election of Board members.. No charge

March – Barbecue at the Swallows' Day Parade Mercado

Find the Historical Society booth at the Swallows' Day Parade Mercado for some wonderful tri-tip barbecue sandwiches and beverages. It is located on the El Camino Real parking lot near the Ortega Highway entrence from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

June – Annual Mixer

Every June the Society hosts a membership mixer for its members and guests. No charge. The mixer is held on the O'Neill Museum patio and grounds. Generous amounts of food and beverages are served. A Chinese raffle is also presented with exceptional prizes.

September – The Annual Heritage Barbecue

The annual Heritage barbecue is held at Amantes Campground on Rancho Mission Viejo. There will be the best tri-tip dinner you've ever tasted with sides of beans, salad, desert, and soft drinks all for a nominal fee. Reservations are necessary to help ensure food for all.

Spend the day under the oaks with friends and guests remininiscing about long-gone days of yore. Browse through historical photographs of people and locations of San Juan Capistrano. Copies of the photographs are available for a nominal fee through the Historical Society. Books detailing the art, history, and legends of San Juan Capistrnao are also available for sale. Enjoy the fun of the Historical Society's wonderful Chinese Raffle which is loaded with exciting gifts.

October – Ghosts

Get in the spirit of Halloween by joining the Historical Society Walking Tour Guides on a spooky walking tour of Los Rios Street, the oldest residential neighborhood in California. Be prepared for creepy tales of big black dogs, strange monks who have lost their heads, ghostly tales about a lady in white and other goings on.

Meet your Ghost Tour Guide Saturday October 27, 2012 at the O'Neill Museum on Los Rios Street. Ghost Walk Tours are conducted at 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 pm. The cost is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children under 12. Reservations are required (make them as soon as possible - they fill up quick!).

December – Christmas Tour

A Christmas tour of the historic ranch house of Rancho Santa Margarita y Las flores on Camp Pendleton. Besides the trip to the old ranch house, there will be a picnic lunch on the base and a tour of another place of historic interest. We will meet at the O'Neill Museum. There is a fee for this tour and reservations afe necessary.
